COURSE OBJECTIVES:

• To practice the students in different types of moulding machines.
• To train the student to identify plastics by different methods
• To train the students on testing of plastic materials
• To understand the mechanical and electrical properties of plastics
• To familiarize with various testing standards

Processing
• Hand operated Injection Moulding Machine – Types, Specifications, Working principles, free hand sketches, Moulds, operations and trouble shooting
• Automatic Injection Moulding M/cs – Types, Specifications, Working principles, free hand sketches, Moulds, operations and trouble shooting
• Extruders – Types, Specifications, Working principles, free hand sketches, Dies, operations and trouble shooting
• Hand Blow Moulding M/cs -Types, Specifications, Working principles, free hand sketches, Moulds, operations and trouble shooting
• Semi-Automatic Blow Moulding M/cs -Types, Specifications, Working principles, free hand sketches, Moulds, operations and trouble shooting
• Compression moulding M/c -Types, Specifications, Working principles, free hand sketches, Moulds, operations and trouble shooting

TESTING

• Identification of polymers by simple methods like density, melting point, burning characteristics, solubility and confirmatory test by chemical analysis.
• Preparation of test specimen using Injection moulding, Contour cutting, and Contour punching.
• Determination of various properties of plastics materials and products

TOTAL : 60 PERIODS
OUTCOMES:

Upon the completion of this course the students will be able to
• Upon completing this practical course, the student will have hands on experience on different types of moulding machines.
• Identify different types of plastics by their characteristics
• Prepare specimen by injection moulding and contour cutting
• Determine important properties of plastic materials
• Understand the operating procedure of various testing machines
