MV3312 Strength of Materials and Applied Mechanics Laboratory Syllabus – Anna University Regulation 2021

OBJECTIVE:

● To understand the concepts of stress, strain, principal stresses and principal planes.
● To study the concept of shearing force and bending moment due to external loads in determinate beams and their effect on stresses.
● To determine stresses and deformation in circular shafts and helical spring due to torsion

STRENGTH OF MATERIALS LAB
LIST OF EXPERIMENTS

1. Tension Test on M.S. Rod.
2. Compression test – Bricks, concrete cubes.
3. Deflection Test – Bench type verification of Maxwell theorem.
4. Tension test on thin wire.
5. Hardness test on various machines.
6. Tests on wood – Tension, compression, bending, impact in work testing machine.
7. Tests on springs – Tension, compression.

APPLIED MECHANICS LAB

8. Impact test.
9. Double shear Test in U.T.M.
10. Load measurement using load indicator, load coils.
11. Fatigue test.
12. Strain measurement using Rosette strain gauge.

TOTAL: 60 PERIODS
COURSE OUTCOMES:

Upon Completion of the course, the students will be able to:
CO1: To operate the various testing machines.
CO2: To carry out various tests on materials
CO3: To choose the best materials for a particular use, based on the test results
