MF3011 Plant and Machinery Maintenance Syllabus:
MF3011 Plant and Machinery Maintenance Syllabus – Anna University Regulation 2021
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
• To explain maintenance objectives and functions, factors influencing Plant Availability,
• Need for maintenance plan and organization, Functions of maintenance control and determine Failure probability, Survival probability and Age specific failure rates of equipments and components.
• To enable the student to understand the principles, functions and practices adapted in industry for the successful management of maintenance activities
• To explain the different maintenance categories like Preventive maintenance, condition monitoring and repair of machine elements
• To illustrate some of the simple instruments used for condition monitoring in industry.
UNIT I INTRODUCTION
Objectives and Functions of maintenance Factors influencing plant availability, Maintenance control, Maintenance Strategies, Organization for Maintenance. Failure Statistics: Breakdown time distributions, Running-in failures, Time independent failures, Wear-out failures, Failure Probability, Survival Probability and age specific failure rates.
UNIT II OVERHAUL AND REPAIR
Meaning and difference, optimal overhaul / Repair / Replace maintenance policy for equipment subject to breakdown. Replacement Decisions: Deterministic and stochastic replacement situations, failure and preventive replacement, Optimal Interval between preventive replacement of equipment subject to breakdown, group replacement.
UNIT III REPAIR METHODS FOR BASIC MACHINE ELEMENTS
Repair methods for beds, slide ways, spindles, gears, lead screws and bearings – Failure analysis – Failures and their development – Logical fault location methods – Sequential fault location.
UNIT IV REPAIR METHODS FOR MATERIAL HANDLING EQUIPMENT
Repair methods for Material handling equipment – Equipment records –Job order systems – Use of computers in maintenance.
UNIT V CONDITION MONITORING
Condition Monitoring – Cost comparison with and without CM – On-load testing and offload testing – Methods and instruments for CM – Temperature sensitive tapes – Pistol thermometers – wear-debris analysis.
TOTAL : 45 PERIODS
