OBJECTIVE:
To make the students aware about the finer sensibilities of human existence through an art form. The students will learn to appreciate different forms of literature as suitable modes of expressing human experience.
1. COURSE CONTENTS
Introduction to Elements of Literature
1. Relevance of literature
a) Enhances Reading, thinking, discussing and writing skills.
b) Develops finer sensibility for better human relationship.
c) Increases understanding of the problem of humanity without bias.
d) Providing space to reconcile and get a cathartic effect.
2. Elements of fiction
a) Fiction, fact and literary truth.
b) Fictional modes and patterns.
c) Plot character and perspective.
3. Elements of poetry
a) Emotions and imaginations.
b) Figurative language.
c) (Simile, metaphor, conceit, symbol, pun and irony).
d) Personification and animation.
e) Rhetoric and trend.
4. Elements of drama
a) Drama as representational art.
b) Content mode and elements.
c) Theatrical performance.
d) Drama as narration, mediation and persuasion.
e) Features of tragedy, comedy and satire.

Students will be able to understand the relevance of literature in human life and appreciate its aspects in developing finer sensibilities.
